Collections Assistant

Royal Mint Museum

1st September 2014 - Present

 

Working towards documenting and stabilising the collection in storage in preparedness for onsite relocation. Main responsibilities include, undertaking condition assessments of the collection, implementing a collection database, reviewing preventive conservation measures, pest management and making recommendations on future care of the collection. The collection comprises a vast assortment of materials including metals, rubber, plasters, wax, organics and an archive that documents the history of the Royal Mint. 

 

Finds Officer

Caerau Heritage Excavation

1st July 2014 – 25th July 2014

 

Providing onsite conservation and finds processing to support the 2014 excavation. Working with local community volunteers, site visitors and schools providing them with practical experience in the processing of archaeological material. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Archive Preservation Assistant

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales

December 2013 - July 2014

 

During this project I work as part of a team tasked with cleaning and cataloguing the historic photographs archive gaining practical archive experience and working a Conservation Officer in the Museum learning paper preservation techniques including dry cleaning and storage. 

 

Conservation Intern

National Trust, Aberdulais Tinworks & Waterfalls

May 2013 – February 2014

 

This project involves the accessioning, condition assessing and implementing long term storage solutions for the collection Aberdulais. The collection consists of both archaeological and historical material including metals, textiles, leather, photographic materials and paper. This project has been the subject of two papers presented at conference, please refer to the Publications page for more information.

Archaeological Conservation Intern

American School of Classical Studies in Athens

June 2013 – August 2013

 

I spent nine weeks working as part of the Conservation Department at the ASCSA providing on-site support for the Summer 2013 Excavation Season. During the internship I had the opportunity to work on bone, marble, stone, ceramics, copper alloy, silver, iron and lead objects. I was also required to re-treated objects including desalination and removing old, aged and failing adhesives.

During this project I worked as part of a team tasked with cleaning and cataloguing the Geology archive gaining practical archive experience and working a Conservation Officer in the Museum learning paper preservation techniques including dry cleaning and storage.

July 2012

 

Throughout this invaluable placement I gained a practical and working knowledge of cleaning and preparing objects for storage including condition checking, identifying weaknesses in a variety of materials and making bespoke packaging.
